Chapter 10 (Vigilantes)

Soga and Moyuru drop in on Rapt in his hospital room, bringing soda and a finished issue of Jump that Rapt correctly identifies as leftovers rather than gifts. What he actually wants is a lighter. A nurse catches the attempt and chases the cigarette out of the ward, so the three go smoke outside. Rapt is mending quickly thanks to his lizard Quirk, though he credits Trigger with keeping him alive and admits the flight it gave him felt incredible. Asked whether he would take it again, he declines; another hospital stay holds no appeal.

Kuin Hachisuka finds Soga alone in an alley and asks after his friends. He tells her to leave them out of it. She presses anyway, pointing to the news out of Danto Ward, where a savage criminal tore through a villain organization's office and killed off a powerful yakuza group. Her pitch is that Trigger is the only thing that would give him a chance against a man like that. Soga wants no part of it and says he will handle the killer himself. She admires the spine right up until the killer announces himself.

Stendhal, sick of the conversation, decides to cut Soga down and move along. Kuin dangles the drug again, and Soga answers by crushing the vials, trusting his Spikes alone. Bored by the choice, she activates Queen Bee and has her insects inject him with Trigger anyway, then strolls off wearing a grin. That grin lands hard: Soga grew up mocked and shunned for a frightening Quirk, and the memory plus the drug tips him over. He swells into a shrieking beast, and the noise pulls Koichi toward the alley.

Stendhal reads the transformation as proof of what Soga truly is and moves in for the kill. Koichi arrives, startled to find both of them, and asks to talk it out; Stendhal draws and opens Soga up instead. Realizing the man intends to finish the job, Koichi slides into his path and trips him, then hoists the transformed Soga, complaining about the spikes, while Stendhal recovers and puts a knife through his leg. Warned that Soga deserves nothing but a dog's death, Koichi gets his Quirk going and slides off, aiming for a crowded street. Stendhal grants that the impulse is genuinely good but counts anyone shielding evil as evil themselves. He wipes a finger through Koichi's blood, tastes it, and Bloodcurdle stops him where he stands. Pronouncing them sinners beyond saving, Stendhal prepares the judgment, only for Knuckleduster to answer that he is wrong with a kick. Stendhal slips it, and Knuckleduster squares up between the blade and its targets, declaring he is already there.

Rapt recovers in the hospital and admits Trigger saved him, but refuses to take it again.

Kuin Hachisuka pushes Soga to use Trigger against the criminal terrorizing Danto Ward; he destroys the drug instead.

Kuin uses Queen Bee to inject Soga with Trigger by force, turning him into an Instant Villain whose Spike Quirk balloons into a beastly form.

Stendhal attacks the transformed Soga, and Koichi intervenes to save him, taking a knife to the leg.

Stendhal tastes Koichi's blood and paralyzes him with Bloodcurdle.

Knuckleduster arrives and places himself between Stendhal and his targets.

The tenth chapter of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court runs 21 pages, released July 8, 2017, and is collected in volume 2 as part of the Stendhal arc. It follows Chapter 9.5 and precedes Chapter 11.

The Crawler, Soga Kugisaki, and Stendhal share the cover. The anime adapts the material as Episode 6.

Serialization originally titled the chapter He Who Judges, rendered in Japanese as Sabaku Kan, before it was renamed for the volume edition. Ichimoku Samazu appears in a picture, and Mario Kugutsu, Pop☆Step, Endeavor, and several others feature in flashback or mention.
