Benn Beckman

Standing 206 cm, Beckman is a tall and muscular man. Roughly twelve years ago during the Foosha Village days, his light brown hair, drawn black in the anime, ran long and was tied into a ponytail. In the present day the color has faded to gray, the length is medium, and the style is slicked back, with a sizable X-shaped scar now cutting across his left temple. He keeps a rifle close at all times and a cigarette planted in his mouth.

Little about his clothing has changed over the years. He presently sports a v-neck top in black whose sleeves stop at three-quarter length, baggy gray cargo trousers covered in pockets and tucked into buckled boots, and the waist sash common to his crewmates, with his rifle slung from it like a sidearm. The single addition to the ensemble is a cloak bearing a spiral motif.

More relaxed and far less boisterous than the rest, Beckman is the composed anchor of the Red Hair crew. Together with Lucky Roux and Yasopp, he is counted among Shanks' most trusted hands, present whenever a crucial moment arrives. He tends to be the first to voice himself and the first to ask the practical questions, such as how the World Government might respond to an audience with Whitebeard. All the same, his captain still leaves him amused or astonished now and then, be it Shanks throwing a fit over Luffy's kidnapping or sinking deeper into drink the night Mihawk reported the boy's debut bounty. He is, on top of that, a known playboy with a weakness for women.

A native of the North Blue, Beckman joined the Red Hair crew and rose to first mate, second only to Shanks in authority. Some nineteen years back the crew freed an island and turned up the infant Uta inside a plundered chest, and thirteen years back they struck a World Government vessel ferrying CP9 agents and walked off with the Gomu Gomu no Mi. After the crew put down roots for a while in Foosha Village, he got to know the young Luffy and, much like Shanks, grew convinced the child was destined for greatness. When Higuma's bandits menaced them, Beckman wiped out the whole group armed with little more than a cigarette and his rifle swung like a bludgeon.

A capable Armament Haki user, he can sheathe his bullets in it, which let him hold a Logia like Kizaru in check. As the Marineford conflict drew to a close he cut off the Admiral, scaling a Marine ship's mast unseen to level his flintlock and order him to stay still while he shielded Luffy and Law. Having just traded blows with Marco and Whitebeard, Kizaru declined to take him on. Across the timeskip the crew came to blows with the Kid Pirates, and Beckman wrenched the left forearm clean off Eustass Kid. A week after Onigashima, with the Red Hair crew steering toward Wano, Shanks announced to him that the moment to claim the One Piece had come. In non-canon material he also stands among the rare individuals born capable of Supreme King Haki.
