Hakugan

Light brown hair tops Hakugan, a man of average build who keeps a white smiling mask fixed over his face. Like the rest of his crew, he wears the white boiler suit bearing the Heart Pirates' jolly roger on the left chest. The novel Law: The Hour of Kikoku reveals that the mask conceals the heavy burn scarring he carries underneath.

Hakugan is faithful to his captain and crew, following Law's commands precisely. The novel paints a fuller portrait: he is courageous enough to leap into the sea to rescue a stranger, yet shy and uneasy in public thanks to his scars and the rejection he faced from villagers. He cares warmly for his younger sister, holds the village chief in high regard, and shied away from accepting any reward for saving Law's life.

His central skill is navigation, guiding the Polar Tang even through the violent torrents surrounding Onigashima. In battle he has wielded an axe against the Beasts Pirates on Zou and switched to a halberd during the Raid on Onigashima. In non-canon material he is also an exceptionally strong swimmer, the only one able to pull a drowning Law from the water when the two first met.
