In his earlier days Kiev sported the standard Franky Family getup, topped with a beard and a raised crest of hair. A star is inked onto each shoulder, his build leans toward the muscular side, and like his fellow members he is rarely without a blade.

Time changes his look considerably. The beard fills out completely, his hair gets restyled into a tall pompadour, and while the goggles stay put, he swaps his old clothes for a Galley-La shirt and rolls around on skates.

Compared with some of his more impulsive comrades, Kiev keeps both feet on the ground. He hesitated, for instance, over the scheme to swipe Franky's swim briefs as a way of pushing him toward the Straw Hats.

His bond with Franky runs deep. After getting to know the man, he took to calling him Aniki, echoing the rest of the family in treating him as their elder brother.

Kiev's road began in misery. He wound up without a home, scrounging the streets for scraps and nearly wasting away from hunger until Franky scooped up him and other starving souls into the family.

When the Straw Hats reached Water 7, the family robbed Usopp and pocketed a fortune, then later clashed with Luffy's crew and got the worse of it. After CP9 abducted Franky and Usopp, Kiev and his fellows begged Luffy to bring them along on the rescue, riding their massive King Bulls to Enies Lobby. There he joined Zambai's squad against the giant gatekeepers Oimo and Kashii, helped breach the courthouse, and was eventually subdued alongside Paulie's group by the three headed judge Baskerville. Freed in time to flee, the family survived a warship bombardment thanks to Paulie's ropes and escaped aboard the sea train.

Back home he celebrated at the Straw Hat party and, once Franky became a wanted man, took part in the plan to launch him toward the pirate crew, weeping with the others as their benefactor finally set sail. Later he, Zambai, and Tamagon founded Zambai's union within Galley-La and fielded an order of ships and cola from Bimine.
