McKinley

Tall and solidly built, McKinley carries the wings common to Skypieans, with a faint scar beneath his left eye. His outfit is the regulation White Beret kit: the signature beret, a short-sleeved top, cloud-patterned jodhpurs flared at the hips, and black boots. A cape-like coat sets his rank apart, echoing the overcoats worn by Marine and pirate captains. Following the two-year timeskip he sports a goatee, and his uniform now carries the letters GG, presumably standing for the God Guardians.

For much of the arc McKinley seems wholly devoted to Enel, but that loyalty has a hidden purpose. Once Enel's intent to annihilate Skypiea is exposed, he reveals that every order he followed was meant to shield the sky island's people, a sign of how deeply he loves his homeland. He and the rest of the White Berets then abandon Enel and pitch in to help Conis evacuate the populace. As commander of the unit he holds authority over its members and shows genuine skill at organization, evident in how he coordinated the evacuation of Angel Island.

When the Straw Hats slipped into Skypiea without paying the entry toll, Amazon alerted McKinley and God's Army. Handed a photo of the crew, he gathered a small squad to warn Angel Island's residents and tracked the pirates to the home of Conis and Pagaya. At first he simply demanded the standard fine for dodging the toll, but tension rose when he spotted the salvaged waver and began to suspect theft or damage. Hearing the penalty, an enraged Nami flattened him with Pagaya's waver. Picking himself up, he branded the crew Class-5 criminals bound for Cloud Drifting and sent his men in, only for the whole troop to be swept aside by Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji.

He resurfaced later as Conis tried to warn the island that their so-called god Enel meant to kill them all. The citizens refused to listen, one child even hurling a stone at her, but McKinley alone believed her and ordered everyone to pack up and flee at once. Two years afterward, he appears sharing a bowl of pumpkin noodles with Pagaya at the Pumpkin Cafe, still serving in the force now known as the God Guardians. In the non-canon film One Piece: Stampede, he takes an interest in a stall run by a gorilla at the Pirates Festival.

The anime widens his first clash with the crew. There he stacks charge upon charge as Usopp and the others keep tripping over Skypiean laws, before Nami's waver launches him into a wall and knocks him cold. Carried to Conis' house for treatment, he sees through her and Pagaya's stalling and detains them, then returns to Angel Beach where his assault again ends in defeat at Luffy's hands. McKinley may be named after the North American peak long called Mount McKinley, now Denali.
