A web of sprouted limbs holds the murderous Hakuba in place as Robin explains she must hurry up to the worried Rebecca. The body keeps changing hands in front of a baffled Bartolomeo: the milder personality breaks through to apologize for almost cutting her, then the killer returns swearing to carve her apart. Briefly each half rules one side of the same face before Cavendish takes the wheel again.

The wall behind Robin starts ballooning outward. Gladius intends to set off the cliff and her at once, so escaping skyward solves nothing. A swipe of Punc Hair leaves Bartolomeo's leg numb, the strands revealed as poison spines, and his bloated frame now works as a bomb that would fling tens of thousands of needles at both captives if he is hit. With no safe choice, Bartolomeo abandons his single-barrier rule, seals Gladius in a Barrier Ball, and stabs him to keep the eruption sealed inside.

Gladius detonates anyway through Fashion Punc, riddling Bartolomeo, then reveals the knife only struck his shoulder, so the wall keeps swelling. Having subdued the killer while leaving half his body under that command, Cavendish sprints Robin to the summit at Hakuba's quickness; she snags them both with Cien Fleur: Spider Net and calls him a tangled sort of man.

Cavendish reveals his dual nature, the two halves openly quarreling for control of one body. Gladius exposes his full Rupture Human form and tries to blow the cliff apart with Robin and Cavendish caught in it. Bartolomeo discards his one-barrier limit, encloses Gladius, and absorbs heavy needle damage to bottle the explosion.

Cavendish borrows Hakuba's blade speed to carry Robin up the cliff. Remembering his first glimpse of Luffy in Loguetown and the years he spent imitating him, Bartolomeo rises and ends the fight with his Luffy-inspired finisher, Homage Shinken: Bari Bari no Pistol. Atop Flower Hill, Robin appears just as Diamante swings Vipera Glaive at Rebecca, turning the strike aside with Kochoran and pledging to guard her.

Unlike the manga's flashback-free version of this fight, the adaptation stacks several in, including the full Loguetown lightning scene replayed, a reworked beat of Bartolomeo admiring the crew's climbing bounties, and filler memories of him copying Luffy's rubber moves and watching the Lucy bouts against Chinjao and Spartan. The Spartan flashback introduces a continuity slip, placing his recognition of Lucy before Block A even though he later reacts with surprise on overhearing Bellamy. The anime also has Robin soften their landing in the sunflower field. Sanji serves as the eyecatcher.
