Gorgon Sisters

These three women of the Boa line hold authority over the entire Kuja people and command the Kuja Pirates from their home on Amazon Lily, and they stood as the chief opposition during the Amazon Lily Arc. Boa Hancock is the eldest, empress of the tribe and captain of the crew, wielding the Mero Mero no Mi along with Armament, Observation, and Supreme King Haki. Boa Sandersonia, the middle sister, carries the Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Anaconda, while the youngest, Boa Marigold, holds the King Cobra model and fights with a halberd.

Tribal legend credits the three with slaying a beast called the Gorgon, a deed said to have cursed them with a second pair of eyes on their backs able to petrify any onlooker. That tale explains why the tribe evacuates the castle and raises barriers whenever the sisters bathe, and it turned them into beloved heroines. The truth is far grimmer. What marks their backs is the Hoof of the Flying Dragon, the brand of slaves owned by the World Nobles, burned in to forever label them as less than human. Their powers were not a curse at all but Devil Fruits force fed to them as cruel sport for their masters.

For four years the sisters endured abuse and longed for death, too afraid of facing a Marine Admiral to resist, until Fisher Tiger scaled the Red Line bare handed, stormed Mary Geoise, and freed every captive there. Unable to go home even after escaping, they were eventually guided back by Gloriosa, with Rayleigh and Shakuyaku also aware of their past. To hide the shame, they invented the Gorgon story and would petrify or kill anyone who glimpsed the scar. Hancock rose to empress with her sisters as her seconds and accepted a place among the Seven Warlords to protect Amazon Lily. Their hatred of men softened only when Monkey D. Luffy shielded their secret and selflessly aided the petrified Kuja, leading Hancock to fall for him. Later trials included the Wano era siege when Blackbeard, hungry for the Mero Mero no Mi, defeated and nearly choked Hancock before Rayleigh drove him off.
