From the Empty Throne, Imu turns to a speechless Cobra with two things to say and one demand. The king remarks that the name resembles one of the original twenty, though Imu declines to confirm it. By Imu's telling, the lineage that once opposed the World Government carried the initial "D.", a meaning now lost even to those who bear it. The present upheaval, Imu insists, springs from an error Nefertari Lili made eight centuries earlier, the act that scattered the Poneglyphs across the world and set pirates hunting treasure through them. Suspecting that her so-called slip was in truth deliberate, Imu points to the letter she left and demands Cobra speak her name in full. Certain now that no exit from the chamber remains for him, Cobra at last says it aloud: Nefertari D. Lili. A heartbeat later, Imu runs him through with an arrow-shaped tail.

Sabo, who had been eavesdropping, charges in and hurls his flames at Imu and the Elders, but the assault fails as the group shifts into towering shadowed beasts. A visual Den Den Mushi captures the shot of Sabo over the fallen king, the damning image the press would soon publish. Cobra names Sabo as Luffy's brother and hands him a final charge: carry word to Luffy and Vivi that the bloodline of Nefertari shares the Will of D. After a battered Sabo escapes, the dying king recites Lili's letter. Wapol, spying through a hole, sees the killing and flees in fright. Meanwhile, CP0 holds Vivi bound, and Kalifa warns she will pass her remaining days as a pet. When Wapol smashes through the wall pleading for his life, Vivi grabs the chance and dives into his mouth, leaving the agents dumbstruck.

Belonging to the Egghead Arc, the chapter confirms that both Imu and the Five Elders can transform into enormous unidentified creatures. It also accounts for the photograph the World Economy News Paper later used against Sabo. Sabo flashes back to boyhood, when Luffy and Ace once discussed with him the meaning of the Will of D. Jabra reveals that Fujitora let freed slaves get away, igniting a brawl with Ryokugyu.
