Escaping the Island

Bearing down on the small holdout near ground level, Magellan readies a venom outlawed for its power, since unleashing it could ruin the prison entirely. As Luffy presses to keep fighting, the poison climbs his waxen leg armor until Galdino peels the wax away just in time. The warden then summons a vast demonic figure of pure toxin, and the two flee as it spreads across stone and wax alike, devouring everything it touches.

At the main gate, Mr. 2 frets over whether Luffy made it and asks about progress on seizing a battleship, hearing only that cannon fire echoes through the mist with nothing visible beyond it. Out on the water, Marines keep trying and failing to hurl Crocodile and Mr. 1 overboard, and the two drop their attackers with ease. When other vessels open fire on the captured ship, Jinbe's surging water spouts crash across the decks and soak the gunpowder. Reaching the entrance with the demon at their heels, Luffy and Galdino are joined by Ivankov, who bursts up through the floor hauling the knocked-out Inazuma. Jinbe radios Luffy to leap into the sea the moment he reaches it, an order that alarms the crowd inside the Calm Belt; Galdino protests trusting a government Warlord, yet Luffy stakes everything on Jinbe being a friend of Ace.

As the venom demon presses on, Luffy and Galdino raise a giant spiked wax barrier and ram it into the creature, stalling it briefly before the poison chews through. Luffy wakes Ivankov and orders everyone to cling to his swelling face, and a Hell Wink flings the entire group clear across the water.

Out by the enemy fleet, the sea churns as Jinbe's summoned whale sharks surface, scooping up the falling group and carrying them toward the captured vessel. Awed, Luffy watches the fish-man work. With that, he and the surviving inmates finally break free of the prison.

The cover carries a color spread styling the breakout's ringleaders in a samurai motif. The lineup pictured includes Luffy, Crocodile, and Inazuma along with Buggy, Galdino, Daz Bonez, Bentham, plus Ivankov and Jinbe. This installment establishes Magellan's banned venom as his ultimate technique and shows that the Doru Doru fruit has limits against the Doku Doku fruit. Events fall within the Impel Down storyline.
