The White Town

A week into Law's time with the crew, the Donquixote Pirates eat together and tease the boy about the thrashing Corazon handed him, reminding him that anyone who insults an officer's authority is tortured and put to death under the family's rules. The threats do not move Law, who replies that he has already seen hell. When the others bring up his Amber Lead Syndrome, Doflamingo silences Giolla, stressing that the condition is a poisoning rather than a disease that spreads. Asked what he loathes so deeply, Law swears he will make Corazon pay for throwing him through a window, which leaves Baby 5 shaken.

When Baby 5 asks about the place Law came from, Gladius names it Flevance, a city so beautiful it seemed plucked from a fairy tale, all of it built on a metal called Amber Lead mined from beneath the ground. The wealth drew the World Government's attention, yet both the crown and the government had known for roughly a century that handling the ore poisoned the diggers. They kept silent to keep the riches flowing. The toxin built up with each generation until children of Law's age were doomed to die before reaching adulthood, their skin going pale. Believing the sickness contagious, the neighboring countries quarantined Flevance and launched a campaign of slaughter. Law's father, a physician, sought a cure in vain before invading soldiers cut down the boy's parents, his sister Lami, the nun, and the orphans. Later, Law finds Corazon resting on a heap of wreckage, runs at him, and buries a blade in his back, all witnessed by a horrified Buffalo.

The North Blue kingdom of Flevance, known as the White City, is introduced here, along with the generational mechanics of the poison and the joint cover-up by its royalty and the World Government. The boy survives by hiding beneath a pile of corpses. Gladius lowers his mask for the first time during the meal, and Doflamingo is seen without his glasses, his features tucked behind a book. Buffalo then races off to tell Doflamingo that Law has broken the blood rules, an offense punished by the skewering torture and death. The cover advances Jinbe's solo serial, and the chapter falls within the Dressrosa Arc.
