Chapter 843

Flung through both his soldiers and a row of tree homies, Cracker tears into Sweet City and smashes against the edge of the Whole Cake Chateau. His siblings Mont-d'Or, Galette, and Opera gape at his condition, conclude that Luffy is responsible, and order an emergency lockdown across the city. Out in the Woods, Pound crawls from cover to apologize for never believing in Luffy, who suddenly shrinks back down because Gear 4 devours an enormous number of calories. Pound then warns the pirates of their danger, recounting how Big Mom once raised a vengeful storm at sea by summoning two homies, the thundercloud Zeus to her left and, at her right side, the sun called Prometheus. He urges them to leave before she locates them. Nami instead realizes that Sanji is traveling to the Chateau this very day and decides they must reach him first.

Riding atop Kingbaum as he carries them clear of the Seducing Woods, Nami tries to reach Chopper and Carrot through a shard of mirror, but their frantic replies cut off as the glass shatters. The pair then catch up to the Germa carriage. Luffy bounds toward Sanji, but the cook, recalling the strength of their enemies and the threats hanging over both his crew and Zeff, drives a kick into him and brands the Straw Hats filthy sea thugs. He announces himself, calling out the Vinsmoke name as his own, says he has embraced life as a prince, and frames marrying Pudding as plainly the wiser path. He claims to have forgotten Luffy's name entirely, yet Luffy believes none of it and readies himself to fight.

Luffy's victory over Cracker is finalized, clocking in at eleven hours, the longest a single foe has ever taken him to topple, and the island falls into lockdown once the defeat is known. New Charlotte siblings appear: Opera, the fifth son, who serves as Minister of Whipped Cream; Galette, the family's eighteenth daughter, holding the Butter ministry; and Mont-d'Or, nineteenth son and Minister of Cheese. The remaining Sweet Commanders are named as Katakuri and Smoothie, with the one beaten by Urouge identified as Snack. Pound explains Big Mom's command over the weather through Prometheus and Zeus. The mirror linking Nami to Chopper and Carrot breaks, severing contact. When the crew meets the Vinsmoke carriage, Sanji claims the family name as his own and tells the Straw Hats to go, but Luffy refuses and the two square off.

This color spread dresses the Straw Hats in bear-themed outfits, posed before a pagoda. The captain's shirt reads Reconstruction Kumamoto, a nod toward a recent real-world disaster in the city where Oda grew up, and the pagoda resembles Kumamoto Castle, since kuma means bear in Japanese. In one panel on page 18, the cook's lone visible eyebrow is drawn curling in the incorrect direction, a mistake later corrected for the Volume 84 printing. Both Niji and Ichiji react to the navigator with hearts in their eyes, just as Sanji and Yonji do.
