Chapter 849

Gathered in their guest room without Reiju, the Vinsmoke men talk over their plan to house Sanji and Pudding within Germa Kingdom after the marriage, keeping Pudding under their control so that a pirate like Big Mom cannot turn the union against them. The brothers make plain that Sanji's welfare means nothing to them. Inside Brulee's home in the Mirro-World, the figure swinging above the soup pot is not Carrot at all but a frog Brulee accidentally reshaped with her power, and the genuine Carrot waits in the attic, faking cries for help to cover the frog's croaking. Spotting Randolph about to cut the rope, Carrot pelts him with a rock, drops down, and tips the boiling pot over Brulee. She then routs Randolph and the others with an Electro burst, Chopper shrinks to Brain Point to slip his chains before becoming Monster Point and slamming the Noble Croc into the crowd, and when Diesel flees to warn Big Mom, Carrot overtakes him and bites his shoulder. With the team beaten, the duo take command of the mirrors.

In his room, Sanji brushes off a report on the chaos and asks instead for the food he ordered, intending to cook for Pudding since she skipped lunch. Within the Room of Treasure, Brook cuts down the last guard and opens the cage holding the stones, but Big Mom then bursts through the door to confront him, instantly fascinated by his odd body. Out in the Chateau courtyard, Big Mom's forces hem Pedro in, and Tamago, an old acquaintance, greets him as the Nox Pirates' captain. Both remove their headgear to reveal matching injuries to the left eye, and Tamago questions why a man who once clung so hard to life would return, given that Big Mom carved half a century from his lifespan during his capture five years ago. Pedro answers that he knows this well and has no intention of going back to Zou alive. In a corridor elsewhere, a gravely wounded Reiju struggles to keep moving.

The Vinsmokes intend to take Pudding hostage once the wedding ends. Chopper and Carrot defeat Brulee's entire group and take over the Mirro-World, and Chopper is shown able to move while in Monster Point. Brook clears the treasure room guards and begins copying the poneglyphs before Big Mom arrives. Tamago drives Pedro into a courtyard trap, where the two old enemies, each marked in the left eye from a prior fight, meet once more. Pedro's former crew is revealed as the Nox Pirates, and it is confirmed that the captive Pedro lost fifty years of his life to Big Mom half a decade ago. Reiju is left badly hurt.

The chapter's title plays on how Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass is rendered in Japanese, with the kanji for the land of mirrors. The cover answers an art request depicting Brook composing music with tadpole-shaped notation. Reiju's serious wound established here sets up later disclosures about her clash with Pudding.
