That night the boy's turmoil takes shape in a dream: the buzzing in his chest fuses into an enormous monster that crushes him, jolting him awake. When Ewen and Emile find him brooding in the dorm common room, Damian invents a cover story about a troubled friend rather than confess that Anya occupies his thoughts, and the pair vow to research solutions at the library.

Helping Damian stings the two boys, who quietly fear they have been demoted below some mystery companion. Pushing through it, they consult Mr. Green, who counsels them on handling envy and suggests picturing the emotion as a cartoon mascot named Mr. Buzz, a trick that lets a person acknowledge the feeling instead of drowning in it. The advice lands, and Ewen and Emile pass it along to Damian together with a garbled bonus technique they call the "Paradise Fist," their mishearing of Green's "paradigm shift." Damian reassures them that they remain his real friends, then dreams that night of brokering peace with his own Mr. Buzz, finally sleeping soundly.

Becky recoils at the handmade "Paradise Fist" strapped to Damian's arm and blames her own teasing for breaking his mind, while Anya abandons her boredom with Tertius and Freddy to gush over the craft. Becky's teasing forces Damian to confront how much Anya's new friendships bother him, though he keeps denying the reason. Mr. Green introduces the Mr. Buzz visualization method for processing jealousy, which Ewen and Emile absorb and relay in mangled form. Damian publicly wears his homemade "Paradise Fist" at school, drawing Anya's delight, Becky's alarm, and Henry's disciplinary warning.
