Meta-Cooler is a cybernetic reconstruction of Cooler, Frieza's older brother, created by the Big Gete Star, a sentient machine planet. After Cooler's original body was destroyed in his first encounter with Goku, fragments of his remains were absorbed by the Big Gete Star and rebuilt into a sleek, chrome-plated warrior. He is the antagonist of Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler.
After Goku blasted Cooler into the sun, a fragment of Cooler's consciousness survived by merging with the Big Gete Star, a massive interstellar machine that assimilates technology and organic matter. The Star reconstructed Cooler as Meta-Cooler, a chrome-armored version of his original form with the ability to self-repair, adapt to enemy techniques, and mass-produce copies of itself. When the Big Gete Star targets New Namek to drain its energy, Goku and Vegeta travel there to stop the invasion.
The initial battle against a single Meta-Cooler proves extraordinarily difficult. Every time Goku or Vegeta damages the cyborg, it analyzes the attack and repairs itself with countermeasures that make the same technique ineffective. This forces the two Saiyans to constantly escalate and innovate, eventually combining their power to destroy the single unit. Their victory is short-lived, as the Big Gete Star reveals it can produce thousands of identical Meta-Cooler bodies simultaneously, each one as powerful as the first.
Goku and Vegeta are captured and connected to the Star's core, where Cooler's true consciousness resides in a grotesque, biomechanical form. In a twist of irony, the Saiyan energy the Star attempts to drain overwhelms its circuits, and Vegeta and Goku use this overload to destroy the core from within. Meta-Cooler's story explores the idea that technology can extend a villain's threat beyond death, but it also reinforces Dragon Ball's central message: no amount of mechanical augmentation can truly substitute for the living will and adaptability of a genuine warrior.
