Role in the Story

Beerus introduces Monaka to the Universe 7 team as their secret weapon for the Tournament of Destroyers against Universe 6. He claims that Monaka is the most powerful mortal he has ever fought, even stronger than Goku. This announcement sends Goku into a frenzy of excitement and drives both him and Vegeta to intensify their training.

The truth is far less impressive. Monaka is actually a meek, physically unimposing deliveryman with no fighting ability whatsoever. Beerus invented the entire story as a motivational tool. The God of Destruction goes to absurd lengths to maintain the deception, panicking whenever someone gets too close to exposing Monaka's weakness.

During the tournament, Monaka is sent out as the final fighter against Hit. By sheer coincidence (and Hit's deliberate choice to throw the match as a gesture to Goku), Monaka wins with a single light punch. After the tournament, the truth about Monaka gradually becomes apparent to most of the cast, though Goku remains oblivious for some time. Monaka continues to appear occasionally as a deliveryman, much to Beerus's ongoing anxiety.
