Role and Significance

Puar's shape-shifting ability, while less versatile than Oolong's, has no time limit, allowing transformations to be maintained indefinitely. This has proven useful on several occasions, most notably when Puar transformed into a pair of scissors to cut off Goku's tail during his Great Ape rampage at Pilaf's castle. Puar and Oolong attended the same transformation school, though Oolong was expelled for bad behavior while Puar graduated normally.

As the series progresses and the power scale escalates far beyond anything a shape-shifting cat can contribute to, Puar settles into a purely supportive role, offering emotional encouragement to Yamcha and occasionally participating in slice-of-life scenes. Puar's unwavering loyalty to Yamcha, even as Yamcha's relevance in battle diminishes, represents a consistent and quietly touching friendship that has endured since the earliest chapters of the original manga. While never a fighter, Puar remains one of the original Dragon Ball cast members who has appeared across nearly every iteration of the franchise.
