King Piccolo has his youth restored by Shenron, then murders the dragon to destroy the Dragon Balls forever. He betrays the Pilaf Gang and sets his sights on conquering Earth through King Castle.
With Shenron towering above the battlefield, Tien contacts Chiaotzu telepathically and tells him to rush forward and wish for Piccolo to be banished from Earth before the demon can speak. Chiaotzu sprints toward the dragon and begins shouting his wish, but King Piccolo spots him and fires a Makosen blast. Chiaotzu manages to utter Tien's name one final time before dying.
With no one left to interfere, Piccolo makes his wish: the restoration of his youth. Shenron grants it, and King Piccolo's withered body transforms into a powerful, youthful form brimming with the strength of his prime. Before the dragon can disperse the balls across the globe, Piccolo fires a devastating mouth blast that kills Shenron outright, scattering the now-inert Dragon Balls as lifeless stones. No one will ever be able to use them to challenge him again, and no one will be wished back to life.
Goku checks his radar on the road to Korin Tower and finds nothing. The signals are gone. King Piccolo declares his intention to target King Castle in Central City, where King Furry governs. When Pilaf nervously requests his promised reward, Piccolo throws him, Mai, and Shu off the airship entirely. Tien, awakening to find both Roshi and Chiaotzu dead, vows to master the Evil Containment Wave and seal Piccolo himself. The episode closes as Yajirobe and Goku finally reach Korin Tower and are greeted by Bora and Upa.
Chiaotzu's death is devastating in its futility. He almost gets the wish out but is silenced at the last possible moment. Piccolo's murder of Shenron is an unprecedented act that eliminates the Dragon Balls as a safety net for the first time in the series. No more resurrections, no more wishes, no more second chances.
Piccolo's betrayal of the Pilaf Gang, the people who freed him, is coldly predictable yet satisfying in its execution. The rejuvenated Piccolo has no need for allies and no interest in sharing power.
This episode permanently changes the landscape of Dragon Ball. With Shenron dead and the Dragon Balls destroyed, death becomes truly permanent for the first time. Krillin, Roshi, and Chiaotzu cannot be wished back. Piccolo's restored youth makes him the most powerful being on Earth, and his march toward King Castle signals the beginning of a global takeover.
