King Piccolo storms King Castle during an anniversary celebration, decimating the guards and capturing King Furry. Goku and Yajirobe begin their climb up Korin Tower in search of greater power.
Central City buzzes with celebration as citizens gather for King Furry's 20th anniversary, with children presenting flowers, including a familiar face: Suno from Jingle Village. The festivities shatter when King Piccolo's airship descends upon the castle.
At the Sacred Land of Korin, a three-years-older Upa is thrilled to see Goku again. Goku explains his need to climb Korin Tower for more training, and Yajirobe initially wants nothing to do with the climb until Goku mentions the Senzu Beans waiting at the top. Bora launches both fighters upward to give them a head start, and Yajirobe begins scaling the tower with Goku riding on his back.
Yamcha and the others arrive at the spot where Roshi confronted Piccolo, discovering the bodies of Roshi and Chiaotzu. Tien tells them everything and departs alone, determined to master the Evil Containment Wave. Back at King Castle, Piccolo drops into the city and begins his assault. Guards, tanks, and soldiers fall in rapid succession. Not a single weapon slows the demon king down. He kills the commander, captures the fleeing King Furry, and takes control of the castle. The world's seat of power now belongs to King Piccolo.
The anniversary celebration provides a cruel contrast to the violence that follows. Children presenting flowers one moment, soldiers dying the next. Piccolo's complete domination of the castle's defenses proves that no conventional military force can touch him.
Goku's climb up Korin Tower parallels Piccolo's march on the castle. One seeks power through discipline and training; the other seizes it through destruction. Tien's solitary departure to learn the Evil Containment Wave adds a third thread of desperate hope.
With King Piccolo seizing the world government by force, the conflict expands from a personal vendetta to a planetary crisis. Goku's journey to Korin Tower is now a race against time, as every moment he spends climbing is a moment Piccolo spends consolidating his rule over the entire world.
