Island of Solitude

Eight months remain before the Saiyans arrive. Gohan keeps his mind sharp by solving complex math equations, but homesickness weighs on him heavily. Elsewhere, Piccolo recalls his humiliation against Raditz and devises a brutal training method: he splits his body into two identical copies and fights himself. The twin Piccolos battle ferocely, their strength and speed growing with each exchange, though they remain too evenly matched for either to gain an advantage.

The Great Escape

Gohan constructs a sand yacht and attempts to cross the desert. After a harrowing encounter with a Sand Eagle that tries to snatch him from above, the craft crashes on a beach. Gohan realizes he has found the ocean and sets off running along the shoreline to find his way home, followed at a distance by the sabertooth cat that has grown strangely attached to him. Days of running along the coast end in crushing disappointment when Gohan arrives back at his starting point: the desert island is surrounded by water on all sides.

Into the Storm

Refusing to give up, Gohan builds a raft from a tree he chops down with his bare hands. He bids farewell to the sabertooth and sets sail. A violent storm strikes, tearing his sail and flooding the small craft. Piccolo senses something wrong and flies into the tempest to search for the boy, but the wind and rain make it impossible to locate him. Gohan's raft breaks apart, leaving him clinging to a piece of wood as a waterspout hurls him through the air.

Determination Tested

Gohan's journey around the island demonstrates both his growing resourcefulness and his emotional resilience. He builds vehicles, evades predators, and pushes through exhaustion, only to learn he has been walking in circles. The discovery that he is on a deserted island could have broken him, but instead he immediately begins planning his escape.

Piccolo vs. Piccolo

Splitting himself to create a sparring partner is one of Piccolo's most creative training decisions. Without any rival capable of matching him, he becomes his own opponent. The fierce exchanges between the two Piccolos show how dramatically his power has grown since the Raditz fight, even though he remains unsatisfied with his progress.

No Walls Can Hold Him

Gohan's refusal to accept his isolation mirrors the stubborn determination his father is famous for. Building a raft and sailing into the unknown takes more courage than any fight. The episode ends on a cliffhanger with Gohan lost at sea during a storm, his fate uncertain, while Piccolo races through the tempest trying to find his student.
