Goku arrives at the battlefield just in time to save Gohan and Krillin. His training with King Kai has transformed him, and he dismantles Nappa with a level of power that stuns even the proud Saiyan Prince Vegeta.
Goku lands on the battlefield to find devastation. His friends lie scattered across the landscape: Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu dead; Piccolo gone; Gohan and Krillin barely clinging to life. The sight of it all, the cost of his absence, is written plainly on his face. He kneels beside Gohan and Krillin and feeds them each a Senzu Bean, restoring their strength in seconds.
Nappa, unimpressed by the newcomer, charges at Goku with the same overwhelming force that destroyed his friends. But something is different now. Goku moves with a speed and precision that Nappa simply cannot follow. Every attack misses. Every counter lands. The Saiyan brute who tore through Earth's strongest warriors with ease is suddenly outclassed in every way.
Vegeta, watching from the sidelines, crushes his scouter in disbelief when it reads Goku's power level. The number exceeds 8,000, surpassing Vegeta's own. For the first time since arriving on Earth, the Saiyan Prince is forced to reconsider his assessment of this planet and the warrior standing on it.
Goku instructs Gohan and Krillin to leave the battlefield. What follows is a thorough and methodical dismantling of Nappa. Goku does not fight with rage or recklessness; he fights with the calm discipline that King Kai's training instilled. Every movement is economical, every strike deliberate. Nappa, for all his brute strength, cannot land a meaningful blow.
Realizing his partner is finished, Vegeta steps in and ends the fight himself, but not to save Nappa. Disgusted by the display of weakness, Vegeta kills his own ally without hesitation, hurling him into the air and destroying him with a single blast. The act says everything about Vegeta's character: failure is not tolerated, loyalty extends only as far as utility, and pride trumps all else.
This episode contains one of the most recognizable scenes in anime history. Vegeta's reaction to Goku's power level reading spawned the legendary "It's Over 9000!" meme, which became a cornerstone of internet culture. Interestingly, the original Japanese dialogue places the number at 8,000, and Kai's uncut version restores this accurate translation, though the edited TV broadcast preserved the more famous misquote.
Beyond the meme, the episode marks a tonal shift. Goku's arrival transforms the battle from a desperate last stand into a genuine contest, setting the stage for the showdown between Saiyan warriors that will define the saga.
