Krillin meets Grand Elder Guru, who reads his past through telepathy and unlocks his dormant power. Meanwhile, Frieza punishes his own soldier for carelessness, then sends Zarbon to retrieve the wounded Vegeta for interrogation about the missing Dragon Ball.
Krillin and Dende arrive at a conspicuous tower standing alone on the Namekian plains, the home of Grand Elder Guru. They are met by Nail, one of the strongest warrior-type Namekians, who serves as Guru's personal guardian. The ancient patriarch is frail but immensely perceptive. Through telepathy, he reads Krillin's entire history and learns about the Nameless Namekian who split into Kami and King Piccolo on Earth long ago.
Satisfied that Krillin's heart is pure, Guru places his weathered hand on the Earthling's head and draws forth hidden reserves of energy that Krillin never knew existed. The power boost is dramatic and immediate. Krillin can feel the difference in every fiber of his being, and he races back toward his friends at speeds he could never have reached before, eager to bring Gohan for the same treatment.
This awakening represents one of the most significant power boosts Krillin has ever received. The Grand Elder does not grant new power; he unlocks what was already there, latent potential that Krillin's training alone could never have accessed. It is a gift that will prove invaluable in the battles ahead, elevating the strongest human fighter to levels that can compete with alien warriors.
A soldier named Orlen discovers the ruins of the village Vegeta attacked and finds a dying Namekian crawling toward the hidden Dragon Ball. After extracting what little information he can, Orlen kills the Namekian and reports back to Frieza. The tyrant is furious, not at Vegeta's betrayal, but at Orlen's stupidity in eliminating the only witness who could have revealed more. Frieza executes Orlen on the spot, a chilling reminder that working for the tyrant is nearly as dangerous as opposing him.
Frieza then orders Zarbon to locate Vegeta and bring him back alive. The prince is the only one who knows where the stolen Dragon Ball is hidden, and Frieza needs that information above all else.
Zarbon finds the battered Vegeta and brings him back to Frieza's ship to heal in a rejuvenation tank. The plan is simple: let Vegeta recover, then force him to reveal the Dragon Ball's location. But as the healing pod hums to life, Frieza is plagued by a strange premonition. He senses that his downfall will come at the hands of a Saiyan, though not Vegeta.
The feeling gnaws at him, a warning he cannot quite decipher. It is an unusual moment of vulnerability for the galactic emperor, a crack in his otherwise impenetrable confidence. Somewhere in deep space, hurtling toward Namek at incredible speed, that very Saiyan continues training in preparation for their inevitable meeting.
