The Earthlings use Porunga's wishes to revive Piccolo and teleport him to Namek. Vegeta wakes and demands the final wish for immortality, but Grand Elder Guru passes away before it can be granted, and Frieza arrives in a murderous rage.
With Porunga hovering above them, Krillin and Gohan face an agonizing set of decisions. The Namekian Dragon Balls can grant three wishes, but each resurrection wish only revives a single person. After consulting with their fallen friends through King Kai's telepathic link, they settle on a plan: use the first wish to bring Piccolo back to life. His revival also restores Kami on Earth, which means the Earth's own Dragon Balls return as well, opening future possibilities for additional resurrections.
The second wish teleports Piccolo to Namek so he can join the fight. King Kai protests this decision, knowing how dangerous Frieza is, but the warriors on the ground need all the help they can get. There is a catch, however. Porunga deposits Piccolo at a random location on the planet rather than directly at their side, leaving the Namekian warrior to find his own way to the battlefield.
The wish mechanics create a layer of strategic complexity that elevates the scene beyond simple wish fulfillment. Each wish has consequences and limitations that must be carefully weighed against the immediate crisis. The decision to prioritize Piccolo reflects both practical combat needs and the deep personal bonds between these fighters.
Vegeta jolts awake and immediately senses that something has changed. The darkened sky and the massive dragon overhead confirm his worst suspicion: the wishes are being made without him. He storms outside and confronts the group, demanding that the third and final wish be used to grant him immortality. Krillin and Gohan reluctantly agree, recognizing that an immortal Vegeta might genuinely be their best weapon against Frieza.
The moment captures the impossible position the Earthlings find themselves in. They are negotiating wish allocation with a mass murderer because the alternative, facing Frieza without every possible advantage, is even worse.
Before Dende can complete the incantation for Vegeta's immortality, tragedy strikes. Grand Elder Guru, the source of the Namekian Dragon Balls' power, passes away from old age and the accumulated stress of Frieza's invasion. Porunga vanishes mid-sentence, and the Dragon Balls turn to lifeless stone. Vegeta's dream of eternal life evaporates in an instant.
Then, the worst possible arrival: Frieza touches down before them, seething with rage that his own plans for immortality have been permanently ruined. No one will achieve eternal life today, and the tyrant intends to make every last one of them suffer for it. The most dangerous battle of their lives is about to begin.
