Kibito Kai is the accidental Potara Fusion between Supreme Kai (Shin) and his attendant Kibito. After Old Kai demonstrated the power of the Potara Earrings by explaining Vegito's creation, Shin and Kibito experimented with the earrings and accidentally fused permanently. The resulting being combined Shin's divine authority with Kibito's supportive abilities, though the fusion was more of a curiosity than a combat powerhouse.
During the Buu Saga, Old Kai revealed the Potara Earrings as a fusion method superior to the Fusion Dance. After Goku and Vegeta used them to create Vegito, Shin became curious about the earrings' function. In a moment of carelessness, he and Kibito each put on one of the remaining Potara Earrings, triggering an immediate and, at the time, seemingly irreversible fusion. The resulting Kibito Kai was understandably confused, as neither Shin nor Kibito had intended to fuse. Old Kai, who had experienced his own accidental Potara Fusion with an old witch millennia earlier, was unsympathetic.
Kibito Kai inherited Shin's role as Supreme Kai of Universe 7 and Kibito's Kai Kai teleportation technique, which proved useful for quickly moving between locations across the universe. In combat terms, however, Kibito Kai was not particularly impressive by the standards of the threats that emerged after the Buu Saga. The fusion persisted through the remainder of Dragon Ball Z and into Dragon Ball Super, where it was eventually undone. Using the Namekian Dragon Balls, Shin and Kibito were separated back into their individual selves, revealing that the Potara Fusion was not truly permanent for non-Supreme Kai beings, or could at least be reversed by a sufficiently powerful wish.
