Effects and Countermeasures

The Black Water Mist is a sinister substance originally created by the ancient demon Garlic. After Garlic's imprisonment and death, Kami hid the mist at the Lookout to prevent it from ever being released. It remained sealed away until Garlic Jr. seized control of the Lookout and unleashed it upon the world.

Anyone who inhales the mist has the evil within their heart drawn to the surface, transforming them into a demonic, vampire-like creature loyal to whoever released the mist. Physical signs of infection include elongated incisors, pink irises, and vanishing pupils, though these symptoms can be partially concealed with dark eyewear, as Master Roshi demonstrated. Infected individuals also gain heightened reflexes and endurance beyond their normal capabilities.

The mist spreads through wind currents, but it can be avoided by sealing oneself inside an airtight space, diving deep underwater, or sheltering in an area the wind cannot reach. Krillin and Maron unknowingly avoided infection by being submerged in the ocean, while Yajirobe and Korin remained safe because Korin's Tower sits directly beneath the Lookout, shielded from the wind patterns that carried the mist.

The Sacred Water Cure

The only known antidote is the Sacred Water (called Ultra Divine Water in the Japanese version), which must be administered within twenty-four hours. After that window closes, the transformation becomes permanent. Notably, Namekians appear to be immune to the mist's effects; when Piccolo was exposed, the mist had no lasting influence on him, though this may contradict certain observations made during the event.
