Origins and Properties

The Super Dragon Balls were created by Zalama in Year 41 of the Divine Calendar, making them the oldest known set of Dragon Balls. Each sphere has a diameter of approximately 37,196 kilometers, putting their volume at roughly 27 times that of Earth. The star markings on each ball appear the same regardless of the viewing angle, a design feature patented by Zalama in Year 42.

To summon the Dragon of the Gods (Super Shenron), one must recite the summoning phrase in the language of the gods. Super Shenron is the most powerful Eternal Dragon, capable of granting literally any wish with no restrictions or limitations. Unlike other sets of Dragon Balls, Super Shenron can only grant a single wish per summoning. After a wish is granted, the balls scatter across both Universe 6 and Universe 7, and they require one year to recharge before they can be used again.

The Namekians discovered the Super Dragon Balls long ago and broke off fragments from them to create their own smaller Dragon Balls. This makes the Super Dragon Balls the ancestor of every other set in existence. Much of the knowledge about these artifacts comes from Zuno, the omniscient being consulted by Bulma and Zamasu at different points in the series.

Wishes and Key Events

The Super Dragon Balls were central to several major story arcs in Dragon Ball Super. During the Universe 6 Saga, Champa had been collecting them for decades, gathering six of the seven. The seventh turned out to be the Nameless Planet itself, the very arena where the Tournament of Destroyers took place, disguised under layers of accumulated material. After Universe 7 won the tournament, Beerus used the wish to restore Universe 6's Earth along with its civilization, though he told Bulma he had simply wished for a more comfortable bed.

Zamasu exploited the Super Dragon Balls to carry out his Zero Mortals Plan. In the unaltered timeline, he used them to swap bodies with Goku, becoming Goku Black. His alternate-timeline counterpart then used that timeline's Super Dragon Balls to wish for immortality. Afterward, they destroyed the balls to prevent anyone from using them to undo their plans.

The Super Dragon Balls served as the ultimate prize for the Tournament of Power during the Universe Survival Saga. Android 17, the last fighter standing, used his wish to restore all the universes that had been erased during the tournament, an act of selflessness that may have also revived universes erased by Zeno long before the tournament began.
