The strange old man reveals himself as Master Roshi and hands out two unlikely rewards: a magical flying cloud for Goku and a third Dragon Ball for Bulma. Three days later, the trail leads the pair to a suspiciously quiet village.
The old man introduces himself as Master Roshi, the Turtle Hermit, and offers a gift to the boy who helped his pet home. His first pick, an immortal phoenix, is unavailable since the bird died from tainted feed, so he summons the Flying Nimbus instead, warning that only a pure-hearted rider can sit on it. Roshi himself tumbles straight through the cloud, but when Goku hops on it holds him up without issue, and he zips happily around the beach.
Bulma, not one to be left out, demands a reward of her own. The old hermit agrees on one condition: she show him her underwear. Not realizing that Goku had quietly removed them from her while she slept, she lifts her gown and gives Roshi far more than she intended. The hermit, nosebleed and all, starts searching for something to hand over when Bulma spots the Dragon Ball hanging around his neck and claims that instead. A second flash convinces him to part with it for good.
After Roshi leaves, Bulma discovers her missing underwear on the floor and, upon hearing Goku cheerfully confess, pulls a machine gun and warns him never to try it again. Before setting out she insists she deserves a ride on the Nimbus too, swearing her heart is plenty pure. The cloud promptly drops her, leaving her to keep traveling the old-fashioned way. Three days later, the Dragon Radar points them toward Aru Village, a small town that is strangely deserted when they arrive.
