Milk Run

Manga ChapterCh. 30

Morning on the training island begins with a blonde Launch squeezing a trigger and Goku kicking back. From there Master Roshi marches his new pupils through a delivery route, teaching that real martial arts starts with sweat, errands, and a talk about a certain world tournament.

A Rough Wake Up Call

Dawn arrives and Master Roshi tiptoes through Kame House to rouse his new students. He freezes when he finds Goku curled up asleep in Launch's bed, her hair still blonde from an earlier sneeze fit. The hermit tries to ease the boy out without making a sound, but Goku stretches awake with a cheerful greeting that snaps Launch out of her own slumber. She reaches for her gun in a heartbeat and unloads a clip at the intruder. Goku refuses to flinch, plants a boot square across her jaw, and drops her cold on the floorboards before breakfast has even started.

Lessons on the Road

Outside, Roshi gathers the boys for their first proper lecture about what martial arts truly means. He follows the speech with a loose jog that winds them into a cluster of huts on the far side of the island. Their first stop is the home of a humanoid cow, whose milk delivery Roshi promised to handle the day before. The boys shoulder the bottles and climb a daunting flight of stone steps to reach the house of a mountain monk perched near the summit. Over the clatter of empty jugs, the monk brings up the World Martial Arts Tournament, planting a seed that will shape every drill to come.

Real Training Begins

After a short conversation about the tournament and the kind of fighters it tends to attract, Goku and Krillin trudge back down the path and finish the rest of the route together. Once the final bottle has been delivered and the last door has swung shut behind them, Roshi calls the morning session complete. The errand was the workout: conditioning, balance, endurance, and a crash course in the very event that will soon pull the entire group off the training island and into the bigger world.
