Trapped in Giran's gum and hurled from the ring, Goku is saved at the last instant by the Flying Nimbus. When his missing tail suddenly grows back during the match, everything changes, and the terrified monster realizes he has stumbled into something far beyond a normal tournament bout.
The chapter picks up with Goku still glued inside Giran's Merry-Go-Round Gum, unable to budge. The reptilian cheerfully explains that struggling only makes the substance cling tighter, then hammers his head and lifts him off the ground to throw him. Goku protests, demanding a clean fight, and Giran launches him clear off the platform. Just as his friends brace for the disqualification, Goku whistles for the Flying Nimbus, and the golden cloud races in and ferries him back into the ring. Giran squawks that bringing outside equipment into a duel breaks the rules, and the announcer pauses to consult the tournament's head priest. After a short conference he grants Goku a one-time exception, allowing the Nimbus rescue to stand.
Giran is unbothered by the ruling, since his opponent is still wrapped head to toe in his gum. Confident, he winds up for a finishing blow and throws his heaviest punch, only to connect with empty air. When he looks up, he finds Goku hanging above him, somehow swinging free, coiled around Giran's own tail by a long, furry appendage that was not there a minute ago. Goku's missing tail has chosen this exact moment to regrow, giving him a fifth limb and a major burst of strength. His friends in the crowd can hardly process what they are seeing.
Goku easily tears himself out of the remaining gum and, curious about his new power, punts the arena wall clean through with a single kick. He cheerfully notes that everything feels heavier and sharper now. Giran, who seconds ago had the match won, takes one look at the boy and pulls out a white flag to concede on the spot. Watching from the stands, Bulma remembers the Great Ape transformation and begins to nervously count the days until the next full moon.
