The duel between Goku and the masked fighter erupts into the most punishing exchange of the tournament. The stranger hurls Goku through the air and even fires a full Kamehameha at the boy, only to watch his target vanish into an afterimage that leaves him stunned.
Goku and the masked challenger study each other across the outdoor ring, both reading the other's breathing for any hint of a weakness. In the gallery, Krillin, Yamcha, and the rest can only stare at the quality of combat unfolding in front of them. The stranger breaks the stillness first, rushing in with a straight attack that Goku answers with a clean kick to the body. Rather than stagger back, the masked man seizes Goku's leg mid-strike, drives him down into the dirt, and then flings him skyward as if pitching a ball. Goku's friends cry out in shock as the small fighter tumbles up into the open air.
The masked fighter launches after Goku and snaps a heavy kick into his back, sending the boy plummeting toward the ground with what should be a match-ending impact. Instead, Goku twists in the air, rights himself, and comes flying back at the stranger with a kick of his own that nearly slams him into the side of a nearby building. The masked warrior saves himself at the last second, pivots, and charges in again for another kick. This time Goku does not even try to dodge. He takes the blow square on, absorbing the force with a grin that makes him look genuinely excited. The stranger hesitates, unsettled that anyone Goku's size could harden his body that much in the middle of a fight.
Reassessing, the masked fighter decides to finish things with a long-range attack and cups his hands at his side. The familiar Kamehameha glows to life between his palms, to the shock of every onlooker in Goku's party, because it is supposed to be Master Roshi's signature technique. The stranger unleashes the wave straight at Goku at point-blank range.
Rather than flee or brace for impact, Goku smoothly steps into the Afterimage Technique, leaving behind a perfect ghost of himself as the beam tears through empty space. The masked fighter's composure finally cracks. Whoever this child is, he is fighting on the same level as the sternest martial artists Baba has ever hosted, and the duel is only getting started.
