Goku's tail is ripped off mid-battle, and the masked warrior reveals himself as Grandpa Gohan, returned from the afterlife for one day by Fortuneteller Baba. Tearful reunions, final farewells, and a crystal ball vision of Emperor Pilaf set the stage for the next confrontation.
Goku howls in pain as his tail tears loose in the grip of the masked fighter, who is none other than his adoptive grandfather, Grandpa Gohan. Master Roshi quickly notes that the boy no longer has his crippling weak spot. Yamcha, Bulma, and the rest of the group stare in disbelief at the unmasked warrior; Gohan is supposed to be dead, yet there he stands with a halo above his head. Furious over losing his tail, Goku squares up to keep fighting, but Gohan calmly surrenders the match. He pulls off his mask, and the moment Goku recognizes the face beneath it, joy overtakes anger. The boy throws himself into his grandfather's arms and weeps openly. After the tears settle, Gohan scolds Goku for never training away the vulnerability of his tail.
Goku asks how Gohan came back to life, and Gohan explains that he remains dead. Fortuneteller Baba summoned him from the Other World to serve as one of her fighters, and he is permitted only a single day among the living. Baba arranged the pairing on purpose, at Gohan's own request, so grandfather and grandson could meet one more time. Gohan thanks Roshi for looking after the boy and quietly asks whether Goku has been transforming into a Great Ape. Roshi assures him the situation is under control. Goku proudly shows off his Dragon Ball collection, and Bulma describes how the orbs changed his life. Young Upa feels guilty that only his father will be revived while Gohan stays dead, but Gohan waves off the concern, hinting that the afterlife has its charms. With a warm smile, Gohan says goodbye and vanishes back to the Other World.
With the reunion over, Fortuneteller Baba turns her crystal ball toward the final missing Dragon Ball. The image surprises everyone: Emperor Pilaf, flanked by Shu and Mai, cruises down a city street in a car, plotting to steal Goku's collection. Bulma wonders why the Dragon Radar never picked up the signal, but Baba reveals the ball is close and heading straight toward them. The group braces for an unexpected encounter as the chapter closes.
