The sixth match of the Twenty-Second Tenka'ichi Budokai pits Kame-Sen'nin's two remaining pupils against each other, as Goku and Kuririn finally square off for the right to challenge Tenshinhan in the finals. Backstage, Tenshinhan boasts about inheriting Tao Pai-pai's mantle as the world's top hitman.
With the semifinals reaching their sixth bout, the announcer calls Son Goku and Kuririn forward for a clash between Kame-Sen'nin's two dedicated students. Kuririn's nerves spike the moment it sinks in that he will be trading blows with his closest friend, while Goku grins at the chance to finally test himself against his training partner. The two exchange a quick promise to give everything they have, then step out onto the tiled ring.
Back in the staging area, the Turtle Hermit has returned to his civilian hat and suit when Tenshinhan spots him through his dark glasses. Pressed about the disguise, the old master admits it spares his pupils the embarrassment of knowing he has been among them. Tenshinhan assumes the old man threw in the towel because none of his students can match him, but Kame-Sen'nin counters that neither boy is foolish enough to believe winning is guaranteed. As he strolls away he privately concedes the fight would have gone against him, and wishes the three-eyed warrior luck. Tenshinhan only sneers at what he reads as spineless weakness, while announcing his intention to take over the late Tao Pai-pai's role as the world's premier assassin.
On the ring, Kuririn opens with a probing kick that Goku absorbs before countering with his own strikes. The pair trade rapid combinations, each read and parried by the other, until Goku slips in a sharp punch to the face. Kuririn springs away and loses sight of his opponent for a heartbeat before Goku reappears with a flurry of aerial kicks. They break apart, talk briefly, then Kuririn rushes back in with an elbow and a sweeping kick that sends Goku across the platform. When Goku leaps high to reset the exchange, Kuririn follows him up, catches the sun against his polished scalp, and bounces a bright beam of light straight into Goku's eyes. Blinded for an instant, Goku takes a solid kick back down toward the tiles, but still twists in the air to land cleanly on his feet.
