With Gohan abducted and Raditz far too powerful for any one fighter to handle, Goku faces an impossible choice. Help arrives from the last person anyone expected: Piccolo steps out of hiding and proposes a temporary alliance, arguing that only the two strongest warriors on Earth fighting together stand any chance of survival.
Raditz repeats his demand: one hundred dead humans on the beach by tomorrow, or Gohan dies. Still reeling from his earlier blow, Goku can barely stand. Krillin calls Raditz a coward, but the Saiyan simply laughs and reminds them that Earth is next on his people's conquest list. He lifts off with the wailing Gohan, and Goku collapses onto the sand. Watching from behind the house, Piccolo observes everything in silence.
Goku calls for the Flying Nimbus and prepares to give chase alone. Krillin and Roshi protest, but Goku points out that a Saiyan's tail is a critical weak point that drains all strength when grabbed. Even so, he admits he cannot do it by himself.
Krillin and Roshi volunteer, but Goku delivers sobering news: Kami told him Shenron cannot grant the same wish twice, so anyone who dies again stays dead. Both agree to fight regardless. Bulma suggests wishing Raditz away with the Dragon Balls, but Roshi doubts they could gather all seven in a single day. Goku asks for the Dragon Radar instead, and the signal from Gohan's hat confirms Raditz has stopped moving somewhere on Earth.
Before they depart, Piccolo reveals himself. Bulma recoils in terror, and Goku demands to know why the Demon King's son is there. Piccolo states bluntly that he already encountered Raditz and knows Krillin and Roshi are far too weak to help. The only viable strategy is for the two strongest fighters on Earth to join forces.
Goku asks whether Piccolo has had a change of heart, but Piccolo scoffs; Raditz is simply an obstacle blocking his plans for world domination. With no better option, Goku accepts the alliance. He takes the Dragon Radar, hops onto the Flying Nimbus, and the two rivals rocket into the sky. Roshi watches them go and thinks the unlikely pair might actually stand a chance.
