Manga ChapterCh. 217

With Chiaotzu's sacrifice proven futile, Piccolo devises a coordinated assault on Nappa. The plan hinges on Gohan delivering the finishing blow, but the boy freezes in terror at the decisive moment. A Coordinated Strike

Following Chiaotzu's futile sacrifice, Goku is shown still making his way down Snake Way. Three hours have passed, and he realizes that running and jumping are too slow, so he begins flying at top speed instead. Meanwhile, Nappa surveys the remaining Z Fighters and declares he will eliminate Tien first, then Krillin. Tien, mourning Chiaotzu, tells Nappa he will pay for what happened.

Piccolo quietly explains his plan to Krillin and Gohan: Nappa drops his guard for a split second each time he launches an attack, and they must exploit that opening with a combined assault. Vegeta overhears the entire strategy. Rather than warn Nappa, he sarcastically praises it as a solid plan and even tells Piccolo to stay focused on Nappa so they do not miss their window. Piccolo notes how dangerously confident Vegeta is and says he looks forward to seeing Vegeta's expression when Goku arrives. Vegeta asks who this Goku is and whether he is supposed to be their secret weapon.

Gohan Freezes

Nappa charges at Tien. Piccolo and Krillin use rapid movement to flank Nappa in the instant he commits to his attack. Piccolo lands a hard strike to Nappa's face, and Krillin follows with a double axe handle. With Nappa staggered, both fighters turn to Gohan, expecting him to fire the finishing blast. Instead, the young boy is paralyzed by fear and cannot move. Piccolo curses Gohan's cowardice. With the window gone, Krillin fires a Kamehameha while Piccolo launches a double energy blast simultaneously. Nappa shoots straight upward, evading both attacks entirely.

Tien's Final Stand

While the others fought, Tien gathered every remaining drop of his energy into his one intact arm. He fires his Spirit Tri-Beam at Nappa, and the blast is powerful enough to shatter Nappa's battle armor. However, the Saiyan himself is completely uninjured. With his life force spent, Tien collapses and dies where he falls. Krillin screams for Goku to save them, knowing Nappa is far beyond anything the remaining fighters can handle.
