With Tien dead and the survivors outmatched, the situation grows more desperate by the second. Piccolo suggests fighting on the ground to neutralize Nappa's aerial advantage. Then Vegeta makes a surprising decision: upon learning that the mysterious Goku is actually Kakarot, he grants a three-hour ceasefire to see if this so-called secret weapon is worth the wait.
Tien's Spirit Tri-Beam proved futile. Having burned through every last ounce of his life energy, Tien falls to the ground dead. Krillin screams for Goku to come save them, fully aware that Nappa is far beyond what the remaining fighters can handle. At the Lookout, Kami watches the battle alongside Mr. Popo. He expresses concern about why Goku has not yet arrived and is gripped by a terrible premonition: he senses that Piccolo will die soon. Since Piccolo's death would mean Kami's death as well, the Dragon Balls themselves would cease to exist.
Back on the battlefield, Piccolo tells Krillin that Nappa is clearly accustomed to aerial combat, so they should keep the fight on the ground to reduce his advantage. Both fighters descend. Nappa, completely unfazed, charges at them. Before he can land a blow, Vegeta shouts for him to stop. Nappa freezes immediately.
Vegeta asks whether this "Son Goku" they keep mentioning is actually Kakarot. Krillin confirms it. Vegeta taunts them, pointing out that if Goku could not even beat a low-class warrior like Raditz, he poses no threat to real Saiyan elites. Krillin fires back that Goku has grown enormously stronger since then, but Vegeta remains unconvinced. Still, his curiosity is piqued. He decides to grant a three-hour window for Goku to arrive.
Nappa is furious with Vegeta's decision and immediately charges at Krillin and Piccolo again. Vegeta barks another order to stop. Nappa obeys, then apologizes for his impatience. The Saiyans and the remaining Z Fighters settle into an uneasy standoff, the tension thick as they wait out the agonizing three hours. Goku is shown flying along Snake Way at full speed, pushing himself to reach Earth in time. When the three hours finally expire, Nappa rises to his feet. The ceasefire is over, and the battle resumes.
