Goku's Request

Manga ChapterCh. 240

Vegeta crawls toward his arriving space pod as Krillin picks up Yajirobe's katana and moves in for the kill. King Kai watches approvingly, but Goku telepathically begs Krillin to stop. He asks his friend to let Vegeta go, driven by a Saiyan warrior's desire to surpass and defeat the prince on his own terms. Krillin reluctantly drops the sword, and Vegeta escapes into space with a final warning.

Reinforcements on the Way

Far from the battlefield, Bulma, Master Roshi, Korin, and Chi-Chi race toward Gizard Wasteland in an aircraft. Chi-Chi is frantic with worry over Gohan's safety and snaps at Korin when the cat sage can only say that Gohan is probably still alive. Master Roshi confirms that he can sense four or five life forces still present at the battle site, though their ki signatures are dangerously faint.

The Sword and the Plea

On the ground, Vegeta's space pod arrives and he begins dragging his broken body toward it. Krillin spots an opportunity and picks up Yajirobe's fallen katana. He approaches the helpless Saiyan prince, ready to end the threat once and for all. On his distant planet, King Kai watches the scene unfold and quietly approves, noting that while he should not play favorites, the Saiyans have caused far too much suffering across the galaxy. Krillin raises the blade and begins to thrust it downward.

A Warrior's Wish

A telepathic voice stops Krillin mid-strike. It is Goku, too injured to speak aloud, reaching out through his mind with a single request: let Vegeta go. Krillin is stunned. He argues that a tyrant like Vegeta will never change and that he will absolutely return to Earth if allowed to leave. Goku agrees that Vegeta will come back, but he says he is determined to surpass the Saiyan prince and defeat him when that day comes. Reluctantly, painfully, Krillin lowers the sword and drops it to the ground. Vegeta drags himself into the pod and leaves one final taunt, promising there will be no miracles to save them next time. The pod launches into the sky and disappears. Krillin lifts the unconscious Gohan into his arms. Yajirobe, who could not hear Goku's telepathic plea, calls Krillin a fool for letting the enemy escape. Goku apologizes, but Krillin tells him that what they need to focus on now is finding a way to bring their fallen allies back to life. Moments later, Bulma, Master Roshi, Korin, and Chi-Chi arrive at the devastated wasteland.
