Destination Namek

Manga ChapterCh. 242

King Kai provides the coordinates of Planet Namek and reveals that Namekians still survive there. Bulma calculates that conventional spacecraft would take over four thousand years to arrive, so the group pins its hopes on a Saiyan pod. When Bulma accidentally triggers its self-destruct, all seems lost until Mr. Popo appears at the hospital window with news about another ship.

King Kai's Intel

Goku contacts King Kai telepathically, and the group is amazed to hear the conversation. King Kai praises them for surviving and admits he underestimated Vegeta's power. He locates Planet Namek's coordinates and explains that the planet was once beautiful before catastrophic weather nearly destroyed its population. Korin pieces together that Earth's Kami must have been a child sent away from the dying planet, arriving with no memory of his origins. Yajirobe asks why the Namekians did not use their own Dragon Balls to wish the disaster away. Master Roshi explains that Dragon Balls cannot grant a wish exceeding the power of their creator.

The Journey Problem

King Kai delivers good news: roughly a hundred Namekians still live on the planet and are thriving. The group celebrates, but Bulma quickly tempers the excitement. She runs the numbers and announces that the fastest engine her father ever built would need 4,339 years and three months to reach Namek. Krillin suggests using a Saiyan space pod instead. Vegeta took his, but Raditz's pod should still be on Earth. Krillin also produces the remote control he recovered from Vegeta, and Bulma begins to believe the trip is actually possible.

Setback and Salvation

The next day at a hospital in West City, the battered fighters are recovering. Goku is mummified in bandages and facing four months of healing, though Korin promises fresh Senzu Beans in one month. A news report shows scientists in East City examining the remaining Saiyan pod on live television. Bulma grabs the remote and starts pressing buttons, but she hits the self-destruct by mistake. The pod explodes on screen, and the room erupts in chaos. Just when all hope of reaching Namek vanishes, Mr. Popo appears floating outside the hospital window and announces that he knows of a spaceship.
