Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan land on Planet Namek and confirm the Dragon Radar detects the Namekian Dragon Balls. Their excitement is short-lived when a Saiyan-style space pod crashes nearby, signaling Vegeta's arrival. Meanwhile, Frieza and his lieutenants Zarbon and Dodoria are already collecting Dragon Balls by force, leaving a trail of dead Namekians.
The ship descends through Namek's atmosphere for a rough but successful landing. Bulma prepares breathing masks, but Krillin and Gohan have already stepped outside breathing fine. They marvel at the alien landscape. Bulma scolds them for rushing out, then pulls out the Dragon Radar. The device picks up signals, confirming Namek's Dragon Balls are detectable. Krillin and Bulma break into a celebratory dance.
Gohan cuts the celebration short, sensing a cluster of powerful ki signatures in the distance. Bulma says they must be peaceful Namekians, as King Kai described. The radar shows four balls gathered, though not in the direction of the ki readings. Before they can investigate, a Saiyan-style space pod bursts through the sky. Krillin tells Gohan to suppress his ki, concluding it must be Vegeta. Bulma panics, but Krillin insists he and Gohan must stay and collect the Dragon Balls. Bulma agrees to contact Master Roshi and return with Goku in two months.
Vegeta emerges from his pod and puts on a scouter, locating Frieza along with Zarbon and Dodoria. On Earth, Bulma phones Kame House to relay the situation. Then a second pod crashes on Namek. Elsewhere, the scene is grim: Namekian villagers lie dead, soldiers in Saiyan-style armor stand over the bodies, and one carries the Three-Star Ball to a small figure in a hover pod. Flanked by a long-haired warrior holding two balls and a massive brute holding a fourth, the figure is addressed as Frieza. Zarbon reports that Cui has arrived and is pursuing Vegeta. Cui lands beside Vegeta's pod, checks his scouter, and notes they are roughly equal. Confident, Cui vows to finish Vegeta.
