The Legend of the Super Saiyan

Recoome expresses surprise at Goku's boldness, unable to comprehend how someone with a power level of only 5,000 could be so confident. Goku tells Recoome plainly that he will not win, and Recoome laughs it off as an obvious bluff. Krillin and Gohan exchange confused glances, unsure what to make of Goku's attitude. Vegeta, meanwhile, silently rages at the very idea that Goku could be the legendary Super Saiyan. He recalls the ancient tale that such a warrior appears only once every thousand years. Vegeta insists to himself that the legend is a myth, and that he alone is the only Saiyan capable of achieving that transformation.

Speed Beyond Measure

While Vegeta wrestles with his thoughts, Recoome launches into a Recoome Mach Attack. Goku sidesteps it effortlessly and vanishes from sight. Everyone loses track of him until Jeice's scouter suddenly detects Goku standing directly behind him and Burter. Goku calmly tells the pair that if they leave now, they will not have to suffer any harm. He then flies back over to face Recoome. Krillin notices something remarkable: Vegeta's eyes tracked Goku's movement the entire time, suggesting the Saiyan prince could follow a speed that left the Ginyu Force completely baffled.

One Blow

Recoome prepares what he calls his ultimate technique, boasting that it will destroy everything in a wide radius around him. He begins powering up, fully expecting the attack to obliterate Goku. Before Recoome can release the blast, Goku closes the distance in an instant and drives a single elbow into Recoome's chest. The impact sends the massive warrior crashing to the ground, unconscious from one strike. Jeice and Burter refuse to believe what they just witnessed, insisting it must have been some kind of trick. Vegeta, however, recognizes the blow for what it truly was: a display of overwhelming, concentrated power. He stares at Goku and continues to grapple with the growing certainty that this Saiyan may indeed be the legend made real.
