Will It Be Freeza? Or Vegeta?

A Combined Assault Falls Short

The Z Fighters reel from the shock of Dende's sudden death. Piccolo quickly realizes that Frieza must have observed Dende healing them and decided to eliminate the advantage at its source. Inside the Medical Machine aboard Frieza's spaceship, Goku senses that a life has been snuffed out and that Frieza's energy has climbed to yet another level. Frieza closes the distance to the island in an instant. Piccolo, Krillin, and Gohan throw everything they have at him simultaneously, launching a flurry of punches and kicks. Frieza weaves through every strike without effort, his movements barely perceptible. The trio switches to energy attacks, firing several blasts in rapid succession that engulf Frieza in a cloud of smoke and debris. For a moment it seems like they may have connected, but Vegeta, watching from a cliff above, points out that Frieza is now standing directly behind them, completely unharmed.

Vegeta Stakes His Claim

Frieza fires a pair of Death Bullets at Gohan. The attack moves so fast that neither Piccolo nor Krillin can even perceive it, but Vegeta rushes in and kicks Gohan out of the line of fire. Piccolo and Krillin are stunned that Vegeta was able to track something they could not see at all. When Gohan thanks him, Vegeta brushes it off, saying he merely wanted to demonstrate the power he now commands. He turns to face Frieza and boldly declares himself the Super Saiyan of legend. The claim visibly rattles Frieza for a brief moment before the tyrant collects himself and laughs it off. Piccolo, Krillin, and Gohan exchange confused glances, unsure what to believe. Vegeta launches himself at Frieza in a blur of speed, throwing a devastating punch. Frieza vanishes before the fist arrives and reappears on a distant island, calling out to mock Vegeta's sluggishness. The Saiyan prince stands frozen, the confidence draining from his face as the gap in their power becomes undeniable.
