The Prince Falls

Vegeta stands shaken after Frieza effortlessly dodged his best attack. Frieza taunts him, suggesting that the Super Saiyan is nothing more than a fairy tale. Enraged, Vegeta screams that he is the Super Saiyan and channels every ounce of his energy into a single enormous blast aimed directly at Frieza. The wave of destruction is so massive that Piccolo warns it could obliterate the entire planet. Frieza watches the blast approach with a flicker of interest, then simply kicks it away into the upper atmosphere. Vegeta, Gohan, Krillin, and Piccolo all stare in disbelief at how little effort the deflection required.

Tears of Despair

The realization that his strongest attack meant nothing washes over Vegeta, and for the first time in his life, the proud Saiyan prince feels genuine hopelessness. Tears stream down his face as his body trembles with a mixture of rage and sorrow. Frieza capitalizes on the moment, crashing a headbutt into Vegeta's face and then driving a kick into his midsection that sends him hurtling into the ground. As Vegeta lies groaning in the dirt, Frieza touches down beside him, wraps his tail around the Saiyan's neck, and lifts him into the air. He begins hammering punches into Vegeta's exposed back, each blow drawing gasps from the onlookers. Frieza calls out to Gohan, Krillin, and Piccolo with mock generosity, inviting them to step in and help their comrade whenever they feel brave enough. None of them can bring themselves to move, paralyzed by fear, and Frieza continues the beating without interruption.

Goku Healed at Last

Inside Frieza's spaceship, Goku has been tracking the battle through ki sensing, growing increasingly alarmed by the staggering heights Frieza's energy keeps reaching. Suddenly the Medical Machine lets out a series of beeps, signaling that the healing process is complete. Goku smashes through the roof of the ship and lands atop the hull, stretching his limbs and absorbing the rush of power coursing through his fully restored body. He notes that the timing could not have been better and silently urges the others to hold on just a little longer.
