Buying Time

Goku stands with both arms stretched toward the sky, pouring every ounce of concentration into the Spirit Bomb overhead. Frieza watches him curiously, unable to figure out what he is doing. Krillin marvels at the bomb's enormous size, and Gohan explains to Piccolo that the Spirit Bomb Goku used against Vegeta was tiny compared to this one. Krillin estimates the sphere is roughly 150 feet across. Piccolo wonders why Goku has not thrown it yet, and Krillin reasons that he must still need more energy to guarantee it can defeat Frieza.

Frieza demands to know what Goku is planning. Goku does not answer, silently willing the universe to give him just a few more seconds. Growing impatient, Frieza kicks Goku and sends him flying. Krillin panics, afraid that Frieza has discovered the plan, but Piccolo assures them that the tyrant is still oblivious. Piccolo quickly asks Gohan and Krillin to transfer their remaining ki to him.

Piccolo Steps In

Goku climbs back to his feet and immediately resumes charging the Spirit Bomb. Frieza knocks him backward again, this time into the water. As Goku hauls himself onto dry land, Piccolo finishes absorbing the energy from Gohan and Krillin. Frieza tells Goku that he despises all Saiyans and plans to destroy him along with the entire planet, vowing that no Super Saiyan will ever emerge.

Just as Frieza prepares to deliver the finishing blow, he catches the Spirit Bomb's reflection shimmering in the water below. He freezes, stunned, and finally realizes what Goku has been doing. Piccolo orders Gohan and Krillin to stay put no matter what and launches himself toward the battlefield. Frieza tells Goku his plan has been a waste of time. Goku throws a punch, but Frieza blocks and readies a killing strike. At that instant, Piccolo delivers a powerful kick to the side of Frieza's head, sending the tyrant splashing into the water. Frieza surfaces in a fury, and Piccolo shouts at Goku to attack now. Frieza angrily admits he had forgotten the Namekian was even there.
