The Tables Turn

Manga ChapterCh. 318

Super Saiyan Goku thoroughly dominates Frieza in combat, shrugging off Death Beams and mocking the tyrant's inability to land a meaningful hit. Frieza learns that the legend of the Super Saiyan is real and that Vegeta failed to achieve the form because he lacked a pure heart. Cornered and humiliated, Frieza decides to destroy Planet Namek itself rather than accept defeat.

Total Domination

Following his initial knockback, Frieza hovers in midair and glares at Goku with seething hatred. The two have a tense standoff before Goku charges forward, driving an elbow into Frieza's face. He follows with a sharp uppercut and then slams the tyrant in the back before Frieza can regain his footing. Frieza retaliates with a rapid flurry of punches and kicks, throwing everything he has into the exchange. Goku blocks every single strike without breaking a sweat, then calmly retreats. Desperate, Frieza unleashes a barrage of Death Beams, each one fired with lethal precision. Goku dodges them all effortlessly, appearing completely unbothered. He then taunts Frieza, daring the tyrant to actually hit him.

The Truth of the Legend

Goku's mockery drives Frieza into a rage, and he fires another Death Beam directly at Goku's face. This time, Goku allows the beam to strike him head-on. It does absolutely nothing. Goku stands there, unharmed, and ridicules Frieza's power. A horrified Frieza demands to know what Goku is. Goku declares himself a Saiyan with a pure heart who was awakened by rage: a Super Saiyan. Frieza admits that he always knew the legend was real, and he now understands why Vegeta never achieved the transformation. The prince lacked the purity of heart required. Frieza's mind reels as he tells himself this must be a nightmare, that he will surely prevail once he wakes up. Goku simply tells Frieza that it is over.

A Desperate Gambit

Meanwhile, Gohan locates the Capsule Corporation spaceship and leaves Piccolo's injured body inside before flying off to find Bulma. Back on the battlefield, Goku begins charging a Kamehameha to finish Frieza once and for all. Frieza, cornered and humiliated, declares that he would rather kill himself than die at the hands of a Saiyan. He then reveals his true plan: he will destroy Planet Namek entirely. Frieza can survive in the vacuum of space while Goku cannot. With a scream of desperation, Frieza hurls his Destroy The Planet technique at the ground beneath them.
