Son Goku's Choice

Manga ChapterCh. 325

Frieza's own Death Saucers become his undoing as Goku outmaneuvers them and one of the discs bisects the tyrant at the waist. Lying in two pieces on the dying planet, Frieza begs for mercy. Against King Kai's urgent warnings, Goku chooses compassion and shares enough energy for Frieza to survive.

Turning the Tables

Goku charges straight at Frieza with the first Death Saucer trailing behind him. At the last second he swerves upward, and Frieza redirects the disc to follow. It appears to slice through Goku, but the figure dissolves into an afterimage. The real Goku stands on the ground below, urging Frieza to step up his game if he truly wants a conclusion. Enraged, Frieza conjures two Death Saucers this time and sends both screaming toward Goku.

Goku dodges briefly, then reverses course and rockets toward Frieza again. Frieza scoffs, accusing Goku of recycling the same primitive strategy. But Goku fires a small ki blast that detonates in a blinding flash of smoke. Disoriented, Frieza leaps upward to avoid the discs he can no longer see. Goku is already waiting above. He smashes Frieza downward into the ground with a crushing blow and shouts at him to stay down.

A Pathetic End

Frieza ignores the warning and staggers to his feet. One of his own Death Saucers catches him across the midsection, slicing his body cleanly in half at the waist. He collapses, his upper torso and a single functioning arm all that remain. Goku stares at the broken tyrant and tells him that this kind of ending does not suit someone of his stature, but Frieza will now share the same fate as the planet beneath them.

An Impossible Mercy

Frieza, pride shattered, begs for help. From his planet in Other World, King Kai senses the hesitation in Goku and screams at him to leave immediately. Goku is disgusted that someone who slaughtered so many without remorse would have the nerve to plead for his own life. Yet he cannot bring himself to abandon even Frieza. He transfers a portion of his own ki into the ruined tyrant, giving him just enough energy to fly and escape on his own.
