Getting Acquainted

Bulma informs Goku that the mysterious boy knew exactly where and when he would arrive on Earth. Puzzled, Goku asks who actually defeated Frieza, guessing it was Piccolo or Vegeta. When Piccolo tells him it was this unknown youth who transformed into a Super Saiyan and destroyed both Frieza and King Cold, Goku is thrilled to learn that another Saiyan exists. Vegeta insists there are no other Saiyans, but Goku does not seem bothered by the contradiction. Future Trunks then requests a private conversation, and despite Yamcha's protests about the secrecy, Goku agrees.

Testing the Legend

Once they are far enough from the others, Goku thanks Trunks for handling Frieza. Trunks explains that Goku was originally supposed to be the one to stop Frieza, but he stepped in because Goku was still three hours away. Goku then reveals that he learned Instant Transmission from the people of Planet Yardrat, meaning he could have intercepted Frieza at any time. Trunks is frustrated, worried that he changed history for nothing.

A Saiyan Challenge

Setting the issue aside, Trunks asks Goku if he can become a Super Saiyan at will. Goku confirms it and transforms on the spot, sending a shockwave of ki that the Z Fighters sense from far away. Trunks also powers up to Super Saiyan and, without warning, swings his sword directly at Goku. He stops the blade just short of contact, but Goku does not flinch. Goku explains that he sensed no malice behind the strike. Trunks grins and tells Goku he will not hold back next time. He launches a rapid flurry of sword strikes, all of which Goku blocks with a single finger. Satisfied, Trunks powers down, declaring that Goku is even greater than the legends he grew up hearing.

Secrets Revealed

Tien, Yamcha, and Vegeta stare in shock at the display of power. After making Goku swear to secrecy, Future Trunks reveals three truths: he has traveled from twenty years in the future, his name is Trunks, and he is Vegeta's son. This final revelation leaves Goku completely stunned.
