Three years of grueling training have passed, and the Z Fighters converge on Amenbo Island on the morning of May 12. Bulma arrives with a baby, Goku accidentally reveals that Vegeta is the father, and the group anxiously waits for the androids to show themselves. When Yajirobe's hovercar explodes overhead, the threat becomes terrifyingly real.
On the morning of May 12, three years after Future Trunks' warning, Goku, Gohan, and Piccolo fly toward Amenbo Island, where the Red Ribbon androids are predicted to appear. Along the way, they run into Krillin, who immediately notices how much stronger Goku and Gohan have become. He mentions that his own training has paid off too, though he acknowledges that no amount of effort can close the gap to Super Saiyan level.
When the group lands on the island, they find Yamcha, Tien, and Bulma already waiting. Bulma is carrying a baby. Goku warns that it is far too dangerous for her to be here, but she insists on getting a look at the androids before leaving. Krillin and Gohan are stunned to see the child, and Gohan innocently assumes the father is Yamcha. Yamcha clarifies that he and Bulma split up long ago. Goku blurts out that Vegeta is the father and that the baby's name is Trunks, shocking everyone. Bulma demands to know how he found out, and Goku covers with a hasty claim that he was guessing.
Piccolo asks about Vegeta's whereabouts. Bulma says they are not living together, but she is confident he will come because he has been training obsessively for this fight. The clock reads 9:30, giving them half an hour until the predicted arrival. To pass the time, Krillin and Gohan entertain baby Trunks. Ten o'clock comes and goes with no sign of the androids. Gohan theorizes that they cannot sense the androids because artificial beings do not emit ki.
Yajirobe arrives in his hovercar bearing a bag of Senzu Beans from Korin. When the Z Fighters ask him to stay and fight, he flatly refuses and takes off. Moments after his departure, his hovercar detonates in a fireball. The explosion confirms what they feared: the androids have arrived, and they are already attacking.
