The Race to the Laboratory

Krillin relays Bulma's revelation that Android 20 is really Dr. Gero. Bulma explains that Gero is a renowned scientist, though disliked among his peers, and that he most likely turned himself into a cyborg to extend his lifespan. Vegeta confronts Future Trunks, pointing out that everything he told them was wrong: the androids are different, and Trunks had said Gero was already dead. Trunks admits his trip through time must have altered history. Piccolo suggests the Androids 17 and 18 mentioned by Gero are the ones Trunks actually knows and asks him to describe them.

Planning the Counterattack

Piccolo asks whether 17 and 18 can also absorb energy through their hands. Future Trunks replies that they possess an infinite energy supply instead. He asks about Goku, and Krillin explains the heart virus just took hold. Bulma reveals that Gero's lab is rumored to be in a cave in the mountains near North City. Piccolo proposes beating Gero there and destroying the androids before activation. Vegeta rejects this as cowardly. Future Trunks warns him not to underestimate the androids and suggests waiting for Goku to recover if they fail. Vegeta declares he needs no one and flies off alone.

Future Trunks' reference to Vegeta as his father catches Bulma's attention. Piccolo reveals Trunks' true identity, shocking Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan. He tells Gohan to escort Bulma and baby Trunks to safety and inform Goku of the situation, while he, Tien, and Krillin try to locate the lab first. Meanwhile, Dr. Gero hides among the rocks and watches Vegeta fly overhead toward his lab, followed by Future Trunks. He initially dismisses it as coincidence, then remembers recognizing Bulma as the Capsule Corporation heir and realizes they know his location. Gero hurries after them, counting on the fact that they do not know the exact position. As they fly, Future Trunks reflects on Future Bulma telling him there was some good in Vegeta, something he refuses to believe. Vegeta tries to outpace Trunks, who matches him by transforming into a Super Saiyan.
