Waiting on the Lookout

Cell's televised threat sends Earth's population into mass panic. People hoard supplies and flee to remote areas in desperate attempts to escape. On the Lookout, everyone waits for Goku and Gohan to exit the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Mr. Popo estimates roughly three hours remain. Vegeta grows impatient, but Piccolo reminds them there is no rush with nine days until the tournament. Piccolo intends to enter next and tells Vegeta to rest. Vegeta scoffs, claiming only a Saiyan can accomplish anything against Cell. When Vegeta presses about staying longer in the chamber, Mr. Popo warns that exceeding 48 lifetime hours causes the exit to vanish, trapping the occupant forever.

A New Kind of Super Saiyan

Everyone suddenly senses Goku's energy. The chamber door opens, and Goku and Gohan step out still transformed, their battle armor tattered. Piccolo stares at Gohan in disbelief. As Trunks explains recent events, Vegeta studies the pair. They carry none of the strain typical Super Saiyans radiate; the form seems as natural as breathing. Goku calls Cell's tournament exciting, shocking the others. He changes into his gi, declining Saiyan armor in favor of fighting as an Earthling. Gohan asks Piccolo for a matching outfit, and Piccolo materializes one for him.

Facing Cell

Using Instant Transmission, Goku teleports to the Cell Games Arena. Cell has just finished decorating the ring. The two warriors size each other up, and Cell declares this arena will decide the fate of the world. Goku confirms he will enter the tournament so long as Cell kills no one else before it begins. He tells Cell it will be a good fight, then vanishes back to the Lookout.

Trunks presses Goku for an honest assessment. Goku confesses that Cell is far stronger than he anticipated and that he does not believe he can win right now. Vegeta is stunned. Piccolo urges Goku and Gohan to use the Time Chamber again, but Goku declines, choosing to train outside for the remaining nine days.
