Cell batters the young Super Saiyan with a relentless combination of strikes, but Gohan manages to counter with a solid kick that draws blood. Determined to awaken the boy's hidden fury, Cell traps Gohan in a crushing bear hug and taunts him mercilessly. Piccolo, disgusted by the plan to let a child suffer, confronts Goku and vows to intervene even at the cost of his own life.
After landing a punch to Gohan's face, Cell follows with an elbow to the back of his head and a powerful kick that launches the boy across the arena. As Gohan recovers, he dodges a charging blow and retaliates with a kick to Cell's jaw, knocking the bio-android to the ground. Cell stands up and wipes a thin trail of blood from the corner of his mouth, smiling. He declares that he will force Gohan's rage to surface no matter what it takes. Watching from the cliff above, Goku feels a surge of anticipation, confident that Cell's pressure will eventually unlock Gohan's dormant power.
Cell unleashes a rapid series of Death Beams toward Gohan, who weaves through each blast with remarkable agility. Krillin immediately recognizes the technique as one of Frieza's signature attacks. Using the final beam as a diversion, Cell closes the distance and locks Gohan in a crushing bear hug, squeezing him tightly while taunting the half-Saiyan to release his anger.
On the clifftop, Piccolo watches the spectacle with mounting fury. He tells Goku that he intends to step in and help. Goku insists they wait, explaining that Gohan's hidden strength is the only weapon capable of defeating Cell. The other Z Fighters are visibly skeptical of this strategy. Piccolo challenges Goku with a pointed question: did he ever discuss this plan with Gohan beforehand? Goku has no answer. Piccolo presses further, telling Goku that Gohan is not thinking about hidden power; the boy is simply wondering why his father refuses to save him. Piccolo then declares that he will go to Gohan's side even if it means his own death.
Shaken by Piccolo's words, Goku turns to Krillin and asks for a Senzu Bean. Before he can act, however, Cell releases Gohan and drops him to the ground. Cell observes that merely causing Gohan physical pain is not triggering the transformation. With a sinister grin, he announces a different approach: he will target the Z Fighters instead. As Cell flies toward the group, Gohan screams at him to stop.
