With Shenron still waiting for a second wish, Krillin asks to remove the explosive devices from Androids 17 and 18. The wish is granted, and the Dragon Balls scatter. The Z Fighters part ways, Tien bids a permanent farewell, and Future Trunks prepares to return to his own timeline. Gohan delivers the painful news of Goku's death to Chi-Chi before seeing Trunks off at Capsule Corporation.
Shenron hovers above the Lookout, awaiting a second wish. Since Goku has insisted on staying dead, the group struggles for ideas. Yamcha half-jokingly mentions his girlfriend wants an expensive necklace, but Krillin cuts him off: can Shenron turn Androids 17 and 18 back into humans? Android 18, eavesdropping nearby, freezes. Shenron declines, explaining the androids are too powerful to alter against their will.
Krillin pivots to a backup plan and asks Shenron to remove the self-destruct bombs inside both androids. Because the change does not weaken them, Shenron grants the wish. Future Trunks asks why Krillin would spend a wish on that, and Krillin says nobody should live with a bomb inside them. Tien asks why he included Android 17, and Krillin admits 17 seems like the perfect match for 18, even though it hurts. Piccolo stands confused by talk of love. Android 18 steps out and corrects Krillin: 17 is her twin brother, not her boyfriend. She warns him against expecting gratitude, but offers a casual "Later" as she leaves. Yamcha nudges Krillin, insisting there is still hope.
Tien departs, telling the others they may never meet again and wishing Trunks luck in his timeline. Piccolo stays at the Lookout, telling Gohan to visit anytime. The Z Fighters say goodbye to Dende, Mr. Popo, Korin, and Yajirobe on the way down. Flying toward Capsule Corporation, Yamcha tells Trunks how Vegeta lost control when Cell killed him. Trunks is stunned his father showed that much emotion. Meanwhile, Gohan delivers the news of Goku's death to Chi-Chi, who breaks down crying.
The next day, Yamcha, Puar, Gohan, Krillin, and Master Roshi gather at Capsule Corporation. Even Vegeta appears, offering a silent wave as Trunks climbs into the Time Machine. The group watches him vanish, and the faint image of Goku stands among them.
