News of the World Martial Arts Tournament spreads like wildfire after Goku contacts the living world from the Other World, announcing he will use his one-day visit to compete. Vegeta, Krillin, Android 18, and Piccolo all agree to enter, while Chi-Chi gives Gohan her blessing the moment she hears about the prize money. The stage is set for the Z Fighters to reunite at the tournament.
At Capsule Corporation, Gohan explains to Bulma that Videl saw through his disguise and blackmailed him into entering the World Martial Arts Tournament. Bulma offers to add a voice changer to the helmet, but Gohan notes that helmets and armor are banned in competition. She devises an alternative: a bandanna and sunglasses to replace the helmet. The look is still goofy, but it meets the rules.
Bulma remarks that Gohan would have no real competition. At that moment, Vegeta strides in and announces he will enter too, determined to prove that his training has closed the gap. Trunks grows excited at the prospect of watching his father fight Gohan. Then an unexpected voice cuts through the room: Goku, speaking via King Kai's telepathy from the Other World.
Goku reveals he has earned a single day to visit the living realm and plans to spend it at the tournament. The news electrifies everyone. Gohan flies off to recruit more fighters. At the Kame House, he finds Krillin sporting a full head of hair, with Android 18 and their daughter Marron nearby. The moment Gohan mentions prize money for the top five finishers, Android 18 pressures Krillin into signing up.
Next, Gohan visits the Lookout. Piccolo agrees to compete, though Dende declines, noting he is a healer rather than a warrior.
Gohan cannot locate Tien Shinhan, and Bulma offers to tell Yamcha, so recruiting is essentially done. The only question is whether Chi-Chi will let Gohan fight. The moment he mentions prize money, she grants him permission and even allows time off from school to train. The next morning, Gohan prepares to resume serious training alongside his younger brother, Goten.
